Sanctuary of Blessed St. Joseph Vaz at Sancoale
Situated within the atmospheric ruins of the 17th-century São João de Deus church, this holy site honors St. Joseph Vaz, known as the "Apostle of Sri Lanka," who held his inaugural mass here in 1675. Its preserved Baroque front and laterite stone structure stand as a significant pilgrimage destination and a protected monument.
Igreja da Nossa Senhora de Saúde (Church of Our Lady of Health) in Sancoale
Commonly known as the Sancoale Church, the Church of Our Lady of Health traces its beginnings to 1606. A fire in 1834 destroyed much of the original building, but its distinctive riverside façade remains and was designated a national monument in 1937. The functioning parish church on the site today was established earlier, around 1783. The church grounds also house the Sanctuary of Blessed Joseph Vaz, built in 1911. Joseph Vaz, a native of Sancoale who conducted his missionary work in Sri Lanka, was officially proclaimed a Patron Saint of Goa in the year 2000.
St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Agaçaim
Positioned on a hill with commanding views of the Zuari River, this church from the mid-1500s is devoted to the patron saint of sailors. It is distinguished by its unique octagonal bell tower, an uncommon architectural element in Goa, and observes its feast on August 10th with deep reverence.
Pilar Seminary at Pilar, Goa Velha
Founded in 1613, this important Capuchin seminary on a hill serves as a central hub for theological education and spiritual retreats. It contains a notable museum of Christian relics and provides sweeping vistas, establishing it as a location for both study and peaceful meditation.
Edwards Yard
A cherished and longstanding restaurant located in a traditional Goan home with an expansive garden courtyard in Goa Velha. Famed for its easygoing, artistic vibe and diverse menu, it is a popular spot for residents and visitors alike, offering generous portions of Goan, Indian, and Continental dishes in a charming, rustic ambiance.
OR
Amrapali - House of Grace
A distinguished restaurant set in a magnificently renovated 150-year-old Indo-Portuguese colonial home. It presents an elegant atmosphere that marries historical allure with modern ease. The cuisine emphasizes carefully prepared Indian and international dishes, delivering a polished dining experience within a graceful, heritage setting.
Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Siridao
Located in Siridao, just off the old Panjim-Margao highway, this church is an architectural marvel and a must visit on your spiritual tour.
Chapel of Our Lady of Annunciation, Siridao
Often referred to locally as the "chapel of Jesus of Nazareth," this site with deep historical roots was constructed in 1604 and features an original dome design with internal features reminiscent of a synagogue. It is famous for the lively Pejechem Fest during the Easter season, attracting crowds for a ceremonial procession and the serving of holy Pez, thought to possess curative qualities. Tradition also speaks of a secret Portuguese tunnel underneath, allegedly stretching beneath the sea.
Walk through Fontainhas in Panjim
Discover the vivid, meandering streets of Panjim's Latin Quarter, an area recognized for its heritage value. This vibrant community, filled with colorful colonial-era homes, art spaces, and cozy cafes, provides a delightful walk through Goa's Portuguese-influenced past and present culture.
Archbishop’s Residence at Altinho Panjim
Located on the calm Altinho hill, this serves as the official headquarters for the Archbishop of the Goa and Daman Archdiocese. The premises, encompassing the Sé Cathedral, function as an important administrative and religious hub, providing grand views across Panjim and the Mandovi River.
