Narali Purnima – A Joyous Coconut Festival in Goa Date: August 09, 2025 (Tuesday) Narali Purnima marks a sacred celebration of the sea and its bounty, observed by Goa’s fishing communities and coastal dwellers with deep devotion. Falling on the full moon day of Shravan (usually in August), it symbolises the end of the monsoon and the beginning of the fishing season.
On this day, fisherfolk offer coconuts (‘naral’) to the sea, seeking protection from storms and blessings for a safe and abundant fishing season ahead. Traditional prayers and rituals take place along the coastline and riversides, with decorated boats, singing of folk songs, and the aroma of coconut-rich sweets filling the air.
Goa celebrates Narali Purnima with a mix of spiritual rituals, music, and community gatherings. It’s not just a festival – it's a reflection of Goa’s coastal culture, gratitude to nature, and age-old traditions passed down generations.
