Sri Mahadeva TempleTambdi Surla OverviewSri Mahadeva Temple, Tambdi Surla is one of the oldest temples in Goa to Lord Shiva. It is said to be built by the minister of King Ramachandra of the Yadava Dynasty, Hemadri, but has influences of architecture belonging to the time the Kadamba Dynasty ruled Goa as well. The monument is made of basalt rocks sourced from the Deccan Plateau and adorns beautiful carvings made by skilled craftsmen of the time.The inner sanctum of Sri Mahadeva Temple has a Shiva Linga mounted on a raised pedestal. There is also a statue of headless Nandi (Lord Shiva's vehicle) in the middle of the temple mandap which is surrounded by four columns. The locals believe that there is a huge king cobra permanently sitting near the Shiva Linga.How to Reach Sri Mahadeva Temple of GoaThe temple is located in a village called Tambdi Surla, located almost 65km away from Goa's capital Panjim. One can reach the temple by hiring a local taxi.
